Home Again Home Again Diggity Dig....
Life has been busy to say the least. Good intentions of writing into the blog are always there but time hasn't been so kind or when there's time, there's no brain space!!!
Coming home to our new, or current, normal is a harsh reality. It's great for Matt to be home, it's exciting in so many ways and there's always something we are learning or doing. Although Matt was somewhat restricted with his disability, pre-amputation, being home in normal day to day living minus a limb and still without a prosthesis, gives the realization of how much more he could do even then. The changes are on quite a large scale and the learning and patience is taken to a complete new level. The regular day to day things he could do are something of the past yet won't be part of the prosthesis future. I don't think any of us realized just how long the processes are toward this goal. Keeping of positive mind is now a challenge; convincing his leg that there is no longer a limb or foot there is a whole other realm.... the human mind and body is quite something!!!
Our family physiotherapist is one absolutely mind blowing human being. She has always been someone who goes above and beyond for us, and this part of the journey is no different. She's been in contact with all Dr's and therapists and she see's Matt once a week for a session with her personally. All the other sessions Matt does are to get him out of the house, to try and keep his mind positive and put him in a physio gym environment and challenge himself. She is one absolutely unique and beautiful human being!
So, here's some pics of our new reality so far....
First stop after hospital, Coffee (of course!)
First Dinner at home, a date for two, of Prawn and Mango Salad (mind you that's beetroot juice not red wine lol)
Triangular shape showing....
These pics are of Matt's limb just prior to leaving hospital. Already there is a more rounded shape happening amongst the many steristrips. Still alot of swelling.
A crash on the lounge after physio and a rather odd resting position that is obviously comfy for Matt :)

The following are some shots of Matt's stump before removing his stitches. You'll see the shape of the stump is somewhat triangular initially. This will give some idea of how the stump is being shaped into a rounded or cone shape (down the track) preparing for prosthesis fitting. Either way very neat and tidy work on Dr Gruijic's part.
