A Leg Up....

After experiencing limbo, impatience, some detachment and depressive & frustrating moments, we have all survived the waiting, which has seemed like forever.  Most people say "wow, you're home already"  or "you've got a leg already" so it mustn't really be that long, but like anything I guess... if you're living it, it's totally different!
So last week it was off to the Prosthesis Clinic at Nepean and there was Matt's new leg!!!  Funnily enough, the evening before, Matt says to me "did you buy me new boots?" and my answer was no.  Here is the most important appointment of all time and I'd forgotten to bring home the most vital part for this new life force!!!  Not that they're MY boots, or it's my leg!  The reality is Matt could've done that himself but just him getting back into some kind of 'normal' is a slow process.  Being in crowded places with staring eyes, is something he's not super comfortable with just yet.  I must say, I did volunteer to take a lunch break at work but I'd gotten my head back in work mode for the first time since early February and although it slipped my mind, I had no reminders either,
On the Wednesday evening, I had literally walked in the door when this conversation took place, then rang Rivers immediately and asked what time they closed.  5:30pm.  It was 5:15pm.  I grabbed my bootcamp clothes, water and made a mad dash to Rivers, got there at 5:27pm and the doors were closed.  So, plan B was Big W.  I bought a back up pair of boots for the just in case we couldn't get Matty's fav boots in the morning.  Ironically, I left my runners at home so I had to buy myself a cheap pair of runners to do bootcamp at 6:30pm  :)
Anyways,Thursday morning, we arrived at 8:45am for a 9am appointment where I dropped Matt and dashed off to Rivers to buy his favourite boots (with good new tread)!!!  Scored the right size, dashed back to the hospital where Matt was inside the clinic with new leg and just putting the Plan B boots on his new leg.  A quick change of boots to the new favourites and it was all systems go!
